Summer sun fun
Hey all! It's me! And this is the first rant I'm posting! Yay! I got so many things going round in this head of mine some times it's hard to keep it all straight. Most thoughts are small and only hang around for the length of time it is to actually think it and then its gone again. So here are some random thoughts that have been going threw my head that I managed to keep a hold of.
WORK!
Yep, everyone knows the meaning of that word. I've been working at a motel for about 4 years now. Work is good, pay is nice, people are nice... mostly... But there isn't that many people around this summer to make a good logic assumption. And that's not good... less people means less rooms to clean... means less hours for me.. Also less tourist means of my paintings and crafts are going to be sold. I"ve sold 2 things in the past 4 weeks!?! It's horrible! I need money! *sigh* I'll admit that my painting are no DeVinchi, but it's not suppose to be. That's why its called ‘folk art'. ;P
Man I made about $250.00 last year on my paintings alone, and that was at the end of the year when the tourist were low. And it really all started by accident too.
‘The story'
I had some scallops shells kicking around in my room for a few years. (Ya know the kinda junk ya never throw out, but you not sure why you keep it?) I don't even remember where they came from. Well anywho mom suggested I should paint them and so I did.
I got out my paints and sat down at the table in the window of the lobby at the motel. (Ya, you could say I live close.) So there I was. Sitting there with 5 shells and a paint brush in hand, and no skill what so ever. So I keep it simple. The top half I painted blue(for sky) and the bottom green (for grass)... and then I was stuck.
Then what? I had no real direction, nothing I wanted to paint. So as I sat there looking at my green/blue shell in comes this lady looking for a room for the night, and over she comes to see what I'm painting.
"Oh your painting shells!" (Ok so I can't remember word for ord what was said, but ya get the idea.)
"Yep. " I said painting some four petal flowers on the still wet grass.
"Could you paint a dog?"
"Ummm.. Sure! I could try." I said.
"Great!" then she hands me 5 dollars.
-_^
And so I did.
And as I was painting this little brown puppy with big puppy dog eyes, his tongue hanging out and one paw in the air, another women came in the door.
"How cute! Could you paint me a dog and a cat?" she asked.
"I could try, but I'm not sure if I can get them done by tonight." (It was getting late. and most people leave early in the morning.)
"Oh.. Well were staying a few days..."
"Sure then they should be done tomorrow night." Well I got them done that night anyhow.
The next day she comes in and gives me some money.. Don't remember how much it was. It wasn't 5 each it was something else. I didn't have a price on anything at the time. So I just sat there and painted after work from about 4 till 9 each night, and people would come in and ask for different things. And I would just keep painting.
I got a lot of offers for my paint of the Yarmouth Lighthouse I did, that was hanging on the wall. But that isn't for sale at any price. It was the first real painting I did, and it cost to much to frame. I was offered about $40.00 for it but that's about the price of the frame itself. I'll scan it and post it here sometime.
It's not very detailed, like the work that Ann Clow does. She paints like a picture! And my paintings are acrylic, not oil like Maud Lewis. I'm trying to develop my own style. I'm me, not them after all.
Well that's all for this thing!
See how I got from my job to my paints?
Next week! Anime, people, and probably more painting stories.
